Imizu City - Imizu City Outline

City Symbol

The design of the Imizu City symbol is based on a variation of the first letter of the City's name in simple Japanese Script, "い"("i"). In Chinese characters, the "mizu" part of Imizu means water, so the swirling, blue symbol also represents the sparkling Japan Sea.

To come up with a fitting design for the symbol of our new city a general competition was held. All submissions had to meet the following two criteria:

Using the simple Japanese "い" as a base, create an image of a drop of water.
Suggest a durable, sustainable expansivity within the circular image.

This design was finally chosen as the winner!
